14 months
Bruce is learning so much! I can't believe how fast it was from baby who can't hold his head to a baby running all over!
As I've mentioned, he has been walking since 10.5 months. He runs a lot too. He spins (both directions, apparently it's not that common at this age to go both directions?), he claps, bounces, sits (barely!).When he wants to outside or you mention going outside, he'll run and bring your shoes to you. With my flip flops, he'll try to put them on my feet for me. Just today, he handed me his empty juice cup. I asked if he wanted more. Then I filled up a cup with water. He had ran, grabbed an empty milk carton from recycling and brought it over to me and said "juice".
He doesn't understand "no" yet. I do believe he knows when he's doing something that he's not supposed to but thinks it's a game. He laughs. We try to be stern and not join in with the laughter. He has started shaking his head with me though. But still does it. Although lately when we've been outside, he always likes to go to the bird bath or the water fountain. I've been saying "No, it's wet", he'll shake his head and walk away. Maybe making progress?
His sleep has been off for awhile. I can get him to fall asleep in the crib but for the life of me, I can't get him to go back to sleep in the crib. He's even waking up during his nap, still needing sleep, which he hasn't done before. Right now, he's now he's sleeping next to me on the couch. I don't know what he has against his crib. I'd love to say it's teething but I feel like that's an excuse for everything.
He says some words. Mama & dada although not for awhile, we should try working on those again. Ball (he'll point this out a mile away!), juice, water, nay (neigh for horse), roar (for lion), baa (for sheep and goat), bird, bu (for bunny), arf (dog), will actually pant (for dog), more (always as a question, the is his second most used word). Lola (our cat), starting to say Chloe (other cat), shoes, bath (he'll say it when he's at the bathroom door) and have I mentioned ball? lol

What is the secret to life?
Seems lately that people are starting to fall apart. First my grandpa, he's doing much better. Then my parents' friend from HS (my dad still does a lot with him), had a stroke or 2. They then found out that he has a hole in his heart. He'll need surgery to plug that. Luckily, it sounds like the stroke was minor and tended to fast. He's going to be ok there. Now today, Roger's uncle had a stroke while he was sleeping. Last I've heard, he's not doing good.
It just gets me thinking. What can I do NOW, to have a long and most importantly, healthy life. Try to eat good, keep at at good weight, exercise. Try to be a good spirited person?
My grandpa is 94, 94! He hasn't had anything major really happen to him until just now. He had an ulcer in his stomach and we almost lost him 3 times in that first week. LUCKILY, he had great care and is doing better. In the past he has had a few minor heart attacks, needed a, I can't remember the word. Where they insert like a little balloon to expand your artery/vein. That was years ago! I think half my life ago! At his old ripe age, he still goes to the Club and I don't know what in the world he does but he gets a workout. He does use the steam room or sauna. I do find it kind of strange, out of 5 siblings. He is the only living, at 94. His sister lived to be 98. The other siblings lived to be in their 50's. So I don't know! I don't know any other 90 year old person who still lives at home and still drives!
But then again, there are some people that just throw my thinking off.
My cross country coach's wife (pretty much the second couch, was couch after I graduated). Super fit, healthy. With a husband being a CC coach. They were fit together. She had a brain tumor or cancer? She didn't make it. How can someone who is doing all the "right" things, great person. Lose their life way sooner than anyone should?
My mom's HS friend. A nurse, VERY caring person. Very fit too, always had been. She's now battling cancer. I'm not sure what kind, but I believe it's a kind that has good possibilities of beating.
It just throws me off. Is it really just luck of the draw? Then again, is the doing the "right" thing keeping you here longer than you would've if you didn't take care of yourself, even if you do not make it to the ripe old triple digit age?

History of my cabin
Let me describe the cabin a little, to paint a picture. My great great grandfather (my mom's side) bought 80acres of land in Wisconsin. When it came down to my grandfather and his 3 siblings, one sibling had 2 kids, my grandfather had 6, the other 2 didn't have kids. When my mom and her siblings were old enough to want their own cabin there, the aunts caused a rucket "You can't just build anywhere". I believe they were mad that most of the land would go to my grandfather's family, which, what were they going to do with it?
During this dispute, my parents bought a cabin in MN on a lake, an aunt of mine bought a cabin in Northern MN (by her husband's family). After a few years, the land got resolved and the kids all got to pick 3 lots. The lots were already drawn out I believe and they had to draw a card for the order of picking. My mom was last, she picked where our cabin is now. Then for round 2, they reversed the order, so she was first. She picked the lot right next to our cabin. Then we have a 5 acre lot in the woods. I think the 2 lots on the lake total 5 acres together, I don't know.
My parents sold the MN cabin. Our cabin was a popup camper for a few years. My parents bought a house that was for sale, not on a lot. The house got delivered from MN to WI. First the foundation got made. I cant remember if that was done before the house got moved up there or not. I was 6 when this happened! Thee foundation was a walk out basement and was the exact size of this little house. I do remember that someone had to come and move the house onto the foundation. Then probably immediately, my dad built this deck that covers the front and back, with a walk way on the side, stairs down on the lake side. The deck on the lake side is about the width and length of the cabin. On the road side, there's a little deck, we do have a round table and chairs there.
After few years, my parents took down the inside of the walls in the living room. That was neat! It was insulated with newspapers. It was all from Lake Minnetonka area (MN), I want to say in the 40's. I remember seeing suits for sale, lake shore lots for sale, vehicles for sale. Very VERY fast, the white newspaper turned yellow, being insulated was preserving the paper. Then the walls got insulated how it's done now and tar siding got put up, on the ceiling too.
This cabin was only a summer cabin, it only had a furnace in between the living room and the kitchen built into the wall, you know the kind that just heats right there. One time when it was just my parents there in the fall, I think after they went to bed, and I think it was shortly after. The furnace started smoking. Somehow they got it out. I know they had to work hard to clean the tar siding since it got black. The furnace got removed. My dad put in duct work and the furnace like you see in any house now, is downstairs. Now where that little furnace was, there needed to be something there since the wall/post above it couldn't be taken down, it was support for the ceiling. There was space in between that post and the wall and there was a small counter there. My parent put a new, wood top and for the new post, it's a round wood, looks kind of like a log. It's a little bar. There were 2 small stools for it, but our cabin is so small, the stools got removed.
During the summers of college for my brother, he was framing. He then decided "Lets get a move on for finishing this basement". It was always said that the basement would get finished. My brother started, the cabin had been there for 20 years now! Fast forward to today, there are 2 bedrooms, a bathroom (well toilet and sink in where the furnace, so it's kinda like peeing in a closet but who cares! No more having to go upstairs!), there have always been 2 sliding glass doors. So on that side of the room it got left to be a long living room, at one end there's a daybed, with a trundle underneath, the other end there's a bar. In the center there's a kitchen table.
Now my brother is a family of 5 and a dog. They have the whole basement to themselves. My husband and I always stayed in "our room" upstairs, the other room is my parents of course. A few years ago my parents purchased a 5th wheel and it's parked there. Now that we are a family of 3, we have been staying in the 5th wheel. It's nice to not feel like I'm disturbing others when the baby would cry in middle of the night. The cabin is not very sound proof. For instance, my brother is downstairs and you have a question, you can just yell. Since the house was put onto the foundation, the only way to go downstairs is to go outside.
That's just a little history of my cabin, a place I just love.

State Fair
My mom babysits Bruce Thursday until Roger gets home. We had planned on going to the State Fair Friday with some of the other family members. My mom ended up staying until I got home from work. She did have my brother's 2 girls too. Apparently Bruce had an amazing time entertaining them! After I ate, we put my stuff in her car and Bruce and I went home with her. We dropped the girls off and back to her house. I didn't even bring anything for him to sleep in. He really doesn't stay in the pack n play. Since we were going up to the cabin this weekend (we were there last weekend), I left the PnP there. When it was time for bed, I just went to bed too. We slept in bed together.
The Fair, we all used to meet up at my one Aunt's house at noon and go. The weather has been so hot, mostly so humid. I was a little worried about bringing Bruce. My mom and I had the plan of whenever we have to leave, even if we've only been there a half hour, we leave. We had thought that we could go to the fair a little earlier, maybe an hour earlier, check out an area that noone else wants to check out. Then people had agreed to meet at the fair at 10. Sweet! I figured it's cooler in the am. Then all of a sudden everyone was saying to go later, like 4:00 later. My brother and his family were, because they were going after work. I didn't want to go that late. Especially since we're going to the cabin afterwards.
So Friday morning, we woke up and went to the Fair. My one aunt came with us. We got to the Fair at 10. Bruce did really well. There were a few times I took him out of the stroller to work his legs, he didn't seem like he wanted to move. I don't think I'm going to have trouble with him running off on me. He did push the stroller a little bit (he likes to push the basket, I steer the stroller). I had given him a bottle of formula earlier and figured he'd eat at the Fair. I got a little worried since he didn't seem interested in any food. He did eat some french fries. He didn't even want his own stuff, cheeries/kix. We took him to see the Horses, which he really like right now. He was excited and was yelling "nay nay". We went up by the stall door, when the horse walked up to us, he clung onto my neck and was like trying to run away. So I moved back. Back, he starting yelling "nay" again. Luckily that didn't scare him. Then later on he took a nice long nap in the stroller. Then at 2, we met up with my cousin's family, another aunt/boyfriend. We left my aunt that was with us with them, and we went home. We had to get the cooler and the dog. I fed Bruce a meal and he gobbled it up. Then we went to the cabin!
